Structuring a job invoice

Put the site reference where the client will see it first — an invoice that cannot be attributed to a project does not get approved. Then separate labour from materials, so the client can see what they are paying for and you have a record if a variation is questioned later.

For staged work, name the stage on the invoice and keep the numbering sequential across the job. Show any deposit already received as a visible deduction rather than adjusting the total quietly.
